Part – 3
No Lady Luck For Allu Arjun And Ntr
The latest bridegrooms of Tollywood are NTR Junior and Allu Arjun. And their weddings happened at a time when their crucial projects ‘Shakti’ ‘Badrinath’ were shaping up. So, it was natural that many attributed the ‘lady luck’ factor for the release and were positive about the films scoring a hit.
However, both turned out to be big flops even after marriage. With this, some of them began to whimper “No hit means that no lady luck has worked for Bunny and Junior.” But then there are many who are countering it and point the problem towards the product and not luck.
A senior cine member said “When the directors have given such a stale and boring product, there is no point in blaming lady luck. There is no logic in attaching the unaware newly wed brides of Junior and Bunny to this because undoubtedly, it was the blunder from the directors and the scripts they have chosen.“

Rocking Badrinath inspite of bad reviews
Allu Arjun’s latest film Badrinath opened to bad reviews from most of the critics. However, that didn’t show any impact on the box office performance on the first day. As expected, Badrinath opened to housefuls allover. It has raked in stunning figures in few areas and thus making it one of the biggest openings ever in Tollywood history.
As per Geeta Arts circles, Badrinath first day collections are on par with all time records. And this is easily the biggest opening that Bunny ever had. With so much hype surrounding the film this kind of reception on first day is inevitable. Now we have to wait and see if Badrinath could hold its ground in coming days.
Real test for Badrinath begins from Monday and it has to survive from then on to enter the safe zone. Let’s wait and see if Badrinath has the potential to prove critics and reviews wrong in the coming weeks.

'Badrinath' Review: Far Better Than Shakti!
Rating: 3.5/5
Banner: Geetha Arts
Cast: Allu Arjun, Tamannah, Prakash Raj, Kelly Dorjee and others
Music: M M Keeravani
Cinematographer: S Ravi Varman
Story: Chinni Krishna
Editor: Gautham Raju
Screenplay, direction: V V Vinayak
Producer: Allu Aravind
Release date: 10/06/2011
Allu Arjun is back and this time he has teamed up with the mass masala movie maker V V Vinayak with a different concept. Let us see how this is.
Story:
The age old ritual of ‘Kshetra Palakudu’ is revived among the Hindu saints and gurus. They approach the veteran Bheeshma Narayana (Prakash Raj) and he decides to mould one child to be the protector of Badrinath.
This is Badri (Allu Arjun) and as fate would have it, he is chosen to be the protector of the Badrinath shrine. The story takes a turn with the arrival of Alakananda (Tamannah) an atheist due to her reasons. Few sequences revive her faith in the god and also trigger love in her for Badri.
However, Bheeshma wants Badri to take over as his successor and the condition is that he must remain a ‘Brahmachari’ for the rest of his life. On the other hand, there is the evil Sarkar (Kelly Dorjee) along with his wife (Ashwini) who want to get Alakananda married to their son so that they can grab her property. What happens after that forms the rest of the story.
Performances:
Allu Arjun looks perfect in physique, riveting in dance performance, apt in emotional scenes. He did his best to do justice but then his character should have been etched with more conviction.
Tamannah is a visual feast and she has given a literal Abhishekam with her milky white oomph factor. Her screen presence is significant and she delivered well during emotional sequences.
Prakash Raj did his bit as required. However, his role was not as powerful as it was hyped. His face was hidden in white beard and hair. Only eyes and nose are visible. Worst make up.
Kelly Dorjee was spineless as a villain, all that hungama about his profile looks hollow. Ashwini (the police cop in Rakta Charitra who gets her revolver licked by Bukka Reddy) is a talented actress but she got stiff in few scenes. Brahmanandam was okay, Krishna Bhagawan gave his regular satires, Dharmavarapu was regular, the lad doing Ashwini’s son’s role was dull. Venu Madhav came and went.
Highlights:
Visual grandeur
Tamannah’s glamour feast
Bunny’s sincere efforts in action and dance
Pace of the film
Drawbacks:
Significant directorial flaws
Weak climax
Non-situational songs
Weak comedy
Average cinematography
Abrupt censoring
Analysis:
The film came in with various publicity stints such as
The costliest film ever made in Tollywood
Allu Arjun’s Indian Samurai role and his training in Vietnam
Chinni Krishna’s statement that this screenplay has never been seen before
Well, coming to the point. There is hardly any impact to say that the film was made at a budget of Rs 40 crores. If that is true then it must be said that the director didn’t utilize it in the right way. Given the buzz about Bunny’s training, the action and fight sequences should have been mind blowing but they were regular Peter Heinz product which we have seen before. As far as screenplay goes, guess Chinni Krishna meant it literally, nothing great about the screenplay. When subjects like Hindu shrines and customs are spoken, basic fundamentals must be followed.
Here is something for Vinayak-
If Allu Arjun is the protector of a holy temple, he should at least have a thilakam on his forehead
Tamannah lights the oil lamps with match sticks. That is unacceptable and grave mistake as per Hindu tradition. The custom requires it to be lit with incense sticks and not match sticks.
In the ‘Vasudhara’ scene, there is a temple deity and everyone is walking coolly with slippers, shoes, long boots etc
Allu Arjun gets upanayanam performed by Prakash Raj and he also drops a ‘jandhyam’ on his body. But that ‘jandhyam’ is never seen again in the film. Is that the value Allu Arjun’s character gives for religion and piousness?!
In the last fight, Allu Arjun jumps out from temple barefoot but by the time he lands at villains he has shoes.
If Brad Pitt kills the opponent by piercing a sword on the shoulder in ‘Troy’, our Allu Arjun pierces and kills merely with two fingers. Why is this silly copying?
If Ram Charan killed 100 soldiers in ‘Magadheera’, our Bunny killed 100+ here with no emotion packed. What’s this comparison?
That way, Vinayak has missed attention to detail and conviction in many scenes. The first half goes about in a mild manner and he shows his mettle before the interval bang with the idol fight. However, things gets a little quirky during the second half and it gets very predictable. Overall, the film will work strongly in the opening day due to Allu Arjun and Tamannah following along with the publicity hype but to be frank, the film has nothing extraordinary to be spoken about.
Bottomline: Nothing Much exciting compare to Magadheera

Two Heroines Insulted Venkatesh Shockingly
There was a time when the film nagar used to say “No one says no to the Big 4” but lately, it appears that the slogan has changed to ‘Everyone says no to Big 4’. This is in reference to the heroines who are showing reluctance to pair up with the likes of Venkatesh, Balakrishna etc.
Now, it is heard that another starlet has joined the list. She is Nithya Menon and recently she was sharing her thoughts. Apparently, a project was on with Venkatesh and Trivikram Srinivas. Nitya Menon was proposed to be heroine who got dropped at the last minute.
Nithya reportedly revealed that she was given the offer but she declined it because she didn’t want to pair up with a super senior hero. She maintained that she is comfortable with her age group. While she can be appreciated for her upfront nature, this has taken many by surprise. Few cine folks state that this could lead to Nithya losing out on opportunities.
They recall an instance when Genelia did the same after Venkatesh's ‘Subhash Chandra Bose’ and quoted she will not act with senior heroes. From then on, her offers reduced. Wonder what is in store for Nithya now.

Ramcharan To Act In R R Movie Makers Film
Lately, big heroes are showing interest to work in Tollywood’s number 1 banner R R Movie Makers. Already, Nagarjuna is doing ‘Dhamarukam’ under this banner and Puri Jagannadh will soon start his ‘The Businessman’ with Mahesh Babu.
Latest we hear is that even Ramcharan is showing eagerness to act in R R Movie Makers banner. The way Sai Kumar’s son Aadi’s debut film ‘Prema Kavali’ was promoted drove many heroes crazy. They are surprised at the way the average reported films like ‘Don Seenu’ ‘Mirapakaya’ ended up as 100 days films.
They are now mentally getting fixed that if a movie has to be done, it should be in such a banner only. One among them is Ramcharan. With Cherry arriving as the special guest for the 100 days function of ‘Prema Kavali’ the grapevine has become strong. With the talk that the banner of Mega Supergood films (making ‘Rachcha’ with Charan) is known for small budget flicks, news is that Ramcharan is desperately waiting to work with R R Movie Makers.

Maaro : Lacks Something Special
Rating : 2.5/5
Director : Siddique
Producer : Srinivas
Music Director : Mani Sharma
Starring : Nitin, Meera Chopra, Abbas and others..
The audio of Maaro was release few years ago, and for reasons unknown, the movie has been released today, that too with a noon show! Inspite of a delayed release, Maaro manages to surprise with some clever moments, but somehow it just doesn’t rise to the occasion!
Maaro What’s it about : Few days after a bank is robbed in the city, Sundaram (Nitin), an imbecile, is looking for a job, taking the reference of one Mr. Murthy. When he visits an ex-minster (Kota) with the same talk, the politican, hatches a clever plan invovling Sundaram, Sundaram’s elder brother Rajmohan (Abbas), and Murthy. Sundaram, is involved in a loan fiasco with Venu Madhav, who himself borrows money from strict moneylenders Ali, Krishna Bhagawan and others. Also, Sundaram calls up a TV Show anchor Priya (Meera Chopra) to get his estranged brother talk to him, knowing that Priya knows Rajmohan. Priya is revealed to be the daughter of the manager of the bank, which was robbed. She and her family, sympathise with Sundaram’s ‘unadulterated’ mind, and offer him shelter in their home. Priya soon discovers that Rajmohan hadn’t deserted Sundaram, but Sundaram has been avoiding him. She also realizes that Sundaram seems to supply one of his friends, an IIT dropout, with drugs. Coming to realize shocking truths about a person who has saved her family from few big troubles, Priya confronts Sundaram. Who is Sundaram, what is his story, why does he supply drugs to a friend, what does he say that his brother estranged him and who is Mr.Murthy form the rest of the story.
What is Good : Even though confusing at the beginning, Maaro’s clever moments come from good screenplay. It has numerous stories involving Sundaram and Mr.Murthy, and is woven with many threads. Had this movie been released few years ago, the screenplay writer could have benefitted a lot by now. Another person who missed out on getting benefits from this movie is Meera Chopra. Irrespective of how she plays her role, her character has been etched well. It is refreshing to see a Telugu film, where the hero and heroine do not have a proper love story attached to them, until almost the pre-climax.
Nitin, as the imbecile Sundaram, is convincing to an extent, and ditto with Abbas. The comic situations involving him, Venu Madhav, Ali, Krishna Bhagawan are hilarious and give the audience breathing space from the tight screenplay. Kota Srinivasa Rao lights up the climax, never realizing who Mr.Murthy actually is. That said, there are visible loopholes in the film.
What is bad: The number of cinematic liberties taken in the film is too many. Once the major twist in the screenplay comes, the story becomes quite predictable. Nitin’s acting in key sequences is a disappointment; he never is as heroic as he should have been, while the villain isn’t as villainish. The biggest problem with Maaro is that the director couldn’t handle the intense emotions in the film in key scenes well. As a result, the film ends up like an ordinary revenge drama.
Technical Departments : As already mentioned, screenplay is good, and the dialouge is consistent. But the combination of editing, cinematography and music somehow don’t match with the story. Songs could have been shot well too, but atleast two could have been completely done away with. Nitin seems to have put some effort for the dance sequences and fights too, even though he looks chubby. The director should be appreciated for coming up with a story line such as this one, but it proved to be too complex a task for him.
Bottomline : Maaro is definitely not a bad movie, with complex story threads, and well-acted comic situations. Problem is it lacks ‘something special’.

Pawan kalyan doing a movie with S.J Surya again
Crazy director SJ Surya was the man behind Pawan Kalyan’s memorable blockbuster ‘Kushi’. He was the same man who left a black mark on Pawan’s career with ‘Komaram Puli’. Despite the bad experience, Pawan has not lost faith in Surya’s talent. He has reportedly liked the script narrated by SJ Surya and accepted to star in it.
However, Surya will not be directing this film. He only provides the story and one of the members from Pawan Kalyan’s creative team will direct it. “Pawan Kalyan still feels that the basic concept of Puli is good. He believes that it was failed due to bad execution,” revealed a source close to the star.
Pawan Kalyan of late has been maintaining a very good relation with his directors, despite the film’s result. Trivikram has turned a very good friend of Pawan and Surya got closer to the actor than before. Pawan is also having a good relation with people like Ganesh Babu. Let’s wait and see whether all these friendly relations will end up getting fruitful results.

Ram CHaran Avoids Krish
Mega hero Ram Charan has just tasted one failure with ‘Orange’, but looks to have learnt million lessons with it. He thought of doing one meaningful film and a mass film in tandem prior to ‘Orange’, but changed his ideas completely now. Charan is just banking on mass masala entertainers as he realized the value of being ‘successful’.
Apparently, Charan thought of doing a film under Krish direction as he liked the director’s work in ‘Gamyam’ and ‘Vedam’. Despite Vedam’s lukewarm response he stood firm on working with Krish. On the other hand, Krish who is known for novel ideas narrated a line which impressed Charan very much. Charan too had almost green lit the project but later backed off with Orange’s result.
According to the sources, Krish who is done with Tamil remake of ‘Vedam’ recently tried to contact Charan regarding their commitment, but the latter said that he is not willing to ‘experiment’ at the moment. So Krish is on a hunt for another hero.
